The registry is a re-election campaign tool, masquerading as a public safety one.
No it has not made communities safer it has endangered lives. It’s not about safety at all, it’s power for moral superiority. Through the years we’ve seen individuals that draw attention and also use the online public notifications to track down and target registrants to hurt and kill them. The public that praises these vigilante maniacs and calling them heroes have no idea they have supported and contribute to their criminal violent acts against registrants. Having family to protect especially children or something that happen in the past is no excuse for violence and malicious acts on registrants, that makes the problem worse.
Dude – the safety feature of the registry is right next to the validated and time proven 80% recidivism rate on the shelf over there. See them? Yeah, me neither….
I have difficulty dating, I have difficulty finding housing, I have difficulty getting employment, I have been harassed, I have been ostracized in the community. Prior to my incident I had no criminal history, I had a DOJ clearance for my job, I was involved in numerous civic organization. All of that is gone and unattainable again. I looked at some illegal images that someone else posted on the internet. They are images available to every home in America and most of the world. I never touched anyone. I did a crime; I recognize that. But the registry has condemned me as the pink triangle and yellow arm bands of Nazi Germany. I made a mistake which will never be forgiven, I will never have a second chance. This is the public service the registry does.
